Design Engineer

Adecco is currently hiring for a full-time Design Engineer to work a 2-year contract at a global, well-established manufacturing company in Montréal, QC. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience working on engine design and development and holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and/or Aerospace engineering.

  • Location: Montréal, QC | WFH to start; move into the office when ready
  • Shifts: Monday to Friday | 8 hours /day

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work on a variety of engine systems, and draw on experience of a variety of market sectors to develop and commercialize a new engine platform
  • Work on the latest engine products and expanding into a variety of propulsion systems
  • Carry out detailed mechanical design work including 3D CAD modeling, basic stress calculations, FMEA’s, 2D layouts, 2D detailing, and Tolerance stacks as required
  • Work closely with analysts, systems, manufacturing, and process engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture and assembly
  • Ensure the components are designed to meet the agreed functional targets, including weight, cost, durability
  • Help to coach the less experienced members of the team
  • Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A degree in Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering is needed
  • 5 years of professional experience as part of a program team working on engine design and development is a must
  • Experience in designing engine systems from concept design through to prototype manufacture
  • High level of 2D and 3D CAD skills with CATIA V5 (Experience with other major CAD systems also beneficial (i.e. NX & CREO)
  • Experience with PLM software such as Windchill and TeamCenter
  • Significant engine design experience with one of more of the following:
    1. Engine structures (crankcase, cylinder head)
    2. Geartrain (gears)
    3. Lubrication and cooling systems
    4. Common rail fuel systems
    5. Intake and exhaust systems
    6. Emission after treatment
    7. Turbocharging
    8. Electrical systems (starters and sensor packs)
  • Aerospace experience is considered a plus
  • Significant vehicle integration and packaging design experience such as air induction and exhaust systems, engine mounts etc.
  • Ability to understand and produce technical drawings to a high standard with GD&T competency
  • Familiar with ASME Y14.5 and/or BS 8888
  • Ability to use engineering theory to aid design – e.g. perform basic stress or bearing load calculations
  • Confident proactive character, ability to take the lead in challenging situations
  • Good communication skills, dealing with other employees, external clients & suppliers in English
  • Be comfortable in meeting environments, and be able to put forward full and reasoned arguments, based on data analysis
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Must be legally eligible to work and reside in Canada
